A Study on the Role and Function of Rehabilitation Counselor Using DACUM in Korea

Abstract

|
This study was investigation of the role and function of the rehabilitation counselor in Korea. The method used for the study was literature research and DACUM job analysis. Analysis of case study of America, Japan and Germany, the role of rehabilitation counselor were individual counseling, group counseling, evaluation, IPE planning, job development and job adjustment, case management, program evaluation and study, elimination of obstacle, protection and consultation, employment support, rehabilitation engineering. The results of DACUM job analysis show that there are six areas of duty. First is rehabilitation counseling and case management. Second is diagnosing disabilities and vocational evaluation. Third is job development and job placement. Forth, rehabilitation services. Fifth is rehabilitation administration. Finally, it is research and development area. And a total of 39 tasks were selected as sub-area. Meanwhile, main business of Korea vocational rehabilitation counselor placed high importance on the directly service such a vocational training but it lacked the indirectly services like case management, protection and consultation, elimination of obstacle. This study suggest future plans for the rehabilitation counselor system implement.
